Klutch turns the group's belongings into a golden raft. She reveals her new calling as the pilot of the vessel and bids them farewell. They become ambassadors to the gods and select horses from an urn. They encounter an army of scarlet riders and call on the dead from the tomb, rallying an army to prepare for battle.

Klutch meditates on the river. Izar asks Klutch if she can ride the river to the ethereal plane. Klutch takes a horn from Izar and attaches it to herself. She asks Darnit, Ego, Hiare, and Hrothulf for their possessions. They each give something, and their items transform or attach to Klutch. The group crosses the river on a gold raft. Hrothulf suggests calling Klutch "Charon." They reach the other side and Klutch stays behind while the group continues. Klutch explains her purpose as ferrying the dead. They say their farewells, and Klutch gives a skull to Hrothulf as a token of gratitude. Klutch asks Izar to deliver her broken horn to her grandfather. The group sees an urn waiting for them, and Klutch tells them they are now ambassadors to the gods. Klutch disappears, and the river is gone. The ethereal plane reveals the ready urn by the riverbank. Klutch designates the group as ambassadors to the gods. Charon disappears, and the river vanishes. Ego suggests moving forward. They approach the urn with different colored horses. Darnit chooses Scarlet, Izar takes the flaxen, and Hrothulf picks the tawny colt. Darnit spins his horse, summoning a scarlet cavalry. Hrothulf twists his thing into a quill-like horsehead. Ego examines the unique viridian horsehead. Izar discovers an escape route. Izar tries using the key to store the scarlet riders, but they resist. Instead, green, ghastly riders crawl out, ready for battle. Darnit commands them to fight. Ego warns Darnit to be cautious with the key. They attempt to open the urn. Hrothulf suggests everyone puts a hand on it. Darnit evaluates the approaching army and chooses confident warriors. They rally under the standard of Teresias and begin a chant. Darnit organizes them in wave formations. The army permeates the horses and attacks with weapons. Hrothulf inscribes encouraging messages on swords. Darnit's forces gain momentum, but the cavalry adjusts. Ego contemplates taking over the knights. Hrothulf supports Darnit's tactics and enhances swords with empowering inscriptions. Knights struggle in battle. Izar husks corn for the lady, who rejects mortal food. Ego hopes to buy time for her takeover. Ego questions the maiden's identity and sees a viridian overlay. Izar asks about god food. Ego suggests devotion or sacrifice. Darnit contemplates taking prisoners. Darnit removes his rope but decides against hostage taking. Hrothulf wonders how to feed the maiden. Ego recalls a significant moment involving Bruno.
